Yesss. I made it to beautiful Bergen. grace to my host who played fleet foxes when we were having tea in the kitchen I'll associate Bergen with white winter hymnal from now on. the song expresses what the city of bergen seems to me. snow as far as my eyes reach, cold, like really really cold, amazing blue-skies - that's how winter should be from november to february on!
everything I'm interested in is in walking distance here. art museum. cafes. well, haha, that's pretty much what makes me happy. and a very well-run record store. only thing that I'm missing is something to have a beer at night - and good music. something cozy. something like cafe europa or elektro goenner in vienna. where do the bergen-based norwegians go at night? those travel guide recommendations don't seem very attractive to me.
recognized anyway that winter is special here in many ways. lots of stores don't open before noon and close around 4 in the afternoon. when I leave the house at half past 9 it looks like 7 in the morning in austria. and at 5 o'clock I feel like I'm taking a walk in the middle of the night. kind of depressing to me.
I'm gonna fly to bergen in beautiful norway tomorrow. now I cross my fingers that lufthansa won't cancel my flight cos I need to change in frankfurt. please please please let me go to bergen...
I can't explain to myself why music has those strong emotinoal effects on me. I enjoy those moments when music totally gets me. when there is nothing around I think of, when music surrounds me, hugs me and doesn't want to let me go. no thoughts drifting away, fullest concentration to the sound that fills the atmosphere. diving into it, drowning in a sea filled with sound. I tend to get slightely pathetic concerning this issue, I know... but there is nothing, nothing ever that makes me so happy and makes me feel so content with everything than music. yesterday, the first time ever MGMT in vienna. you can complain about the venue (gasometer, eherm..) as much as you want but this concert was simply amazing! that was like surfing with mgmt on a wave into the undiscovered spheres of the universe. that was absolutely great. I stood there and listened andrew van wyngardens lyrics. I stood there and smiled non-stop. I stood there and danced and felt free and felt good and young and as if nothing ever in life would be able to stop me! that was a feeling of living forever and a feeling of having the whole world spread right in front of my feet. the set was super arranged. the voices of andrew and ben sounded so unique and strange though totally familiar. the crowd was excited. I was surrounded by amazment and happiness. and in the middle of all these people having a good time was I, feeling so astonished about how highly my expectations were exceeded.
...step out of the house, look up into the grey sky. a smile. I inhale the cold air. breathe out. see my own breath in front of me. repeat this process. snow in the air, snow on my face, snow on the ground. it's cold but not in my warm shoes and not under my warm gloves. step by step do I walk - or rather slide - on the pedestrian walk. on a wet and slobbery ground towards an even wetter and more slobbery zebracrossing. snow on my furry bonnet, snow on my coat. a wandering snowman. another smile. I grab into my as-well-snowy bag, take out my camera and shoot. again do I smile because nothing makes me happier than the beginning of winter.
really nice concert with a motivated band on stage - what more can you ask for on a monday evening? tunes that make you smile and dance and leave you with a calm mind prepared for a dull tuesday morning.
explanation. I chose a random year and have a look in my itunes which bands released which records in that year. then I chose those I find the most interesting (for me of course) and go through the records again. very very nice surprises.
records released in 2002 which I am about to re-discover and once again listen to in endless loops.
nada surf - let go
what a felicitous piece of art! songs like blonde on blonde, hi-speed soul, inside of love or happy kid - not ot forget the way you wear your head - still get me. A mind drifting away thinking about the deep mysteries of this oh-so-obscure term "love". thank you matthew caws.
interpol - turn on the bright lights
debut album of interpol. masterpiece of music. to listen to again and again and again. paul banks voice.....close eyes, tap feet, shake head and then start crying. intense.
oasis - heathen chemistry
well, at least songbird and stop crying your heart out are featured on this record. though I can't really get me through to listen to the full record cos I mainly stick to those two songs.
tocotronic - tocotronic
hi freaks was the song that got me to estimate and like tocotronic. the beginning of an everlasting love haha. näher zu dir, drama, wolke der unwissenheit, definitely worth keeping that record in mind!
Rosemary Heaven restores you in life You're coming with me Through the aging, the fearing, the strife It's the smiling on the package It's the faces in the sand It's the thought that moves you upwards Embracing me with two hands Right will take you places Yeah maybe to the beach When your friends they do come crying Tell them now your pleasure's set upon slow-release
Hey wait Great smile sensitive to fate not Denial But hey who's on trial?
It took a life spent with no cellmate The long way back Saying, "why can't we look the other way?"
we speaks about travel Yeah, we think about the land We smart like all peoples Feeling real tan I could take you places Do you need a new man? Wipe the pollen from the faces Make revision to a dream while you wait in the van
Hey wait Great smile sensitive to fate not Denial But hey who's on trial?
It took a life spent with no cellmate To find the long way back Saying, "why can't we look the other way?" You're weightless, you are exotic You need something for which to care Saying, "why can't we look the other way?"
Leave some shards under the belly Lay some grease inside my hand It's a sentimental jury And the makings of a good plan You've come to love me lightly Yeah you've come to hold me tight Is this motion everlasting Or do shutters pass in the night?
Rosemary Oh heaven restores you in life I spent a lifespan with no cellmate The long way back Saying, "why can't we look the other way?" You're weightless, semi-erotic You need someone to take you there Saying, "why can't we look the other way?" Why can't we just play the other game?
Why can't we just look the other way?

epic. feet tipping like a maniac with eyes closed and my head raised high. dancing never felt so good before.
so I finally made it and put up some impressions from our travel through a huge part of europe.
the finite route was zürich - lyon - barcelona - paris - london - leeds - york - edinburgh - amsterdam - kopenhagen- lund - malmö - göteborg - oslo
I don't wanna miss any of the places I've seen, the people I got to know and the experiences we made. We travelled 9 different countries with 6 different currencies and 8 different languages. ________________________________________
ZÜRICH. 2 nights. 1 full day. incredibly beautiful city and gorgeous host leni who showed us around. will never forget the feeling of jumping into the cold lake in total darkness from an 8 meter high metal-building! LYON. unexpected stop due to TGV-reservation-problems, but good choice that we stayed. cheap trashy french hotel in the middle of the city, almost locked into an ancient hospital, long walk through the city; beautiful! BARCELONA. 4 nights. 3 full days. we instantly fell in love with this city, the spanish people and the prices for coffee!we managed to avoid public transport and walked through the city all day long. from the beach through the inner city, from the montjuïc to the sagrada familia, to parc güell, la rambla, the quarter gràcia and so on. had the most amazing chocolate cake there, seriously!
pictures follow, I'm too lazy now, it's time to explore PARIS!
3 days packed with loads of sun, bathing in the traisen, sipping cool beer, using tons of suncream and dancing to numerous fantastic bands!
Can't name what I enjoyed the most, though I try to go through the performances that impressed me the most. Probably one of the best where The Drums on day 1. Superenergetic show, great performance, first band that made me dance and forget everything around me, thanks. Or Get Well Soon? Konstantin Groppers beautiful music almot made me burst into tears. But Mumford and Sons? Also amazing, though (I can't tell what it was) someting was missing, they didn't convince me. Or my all-time-favs Shout Out Louds? But what a pity they didn't play at night and at green stage. The atmosphere on frequency fest 2007 where they played as pre-last act at green stage was times better! La Roux was surprisingly great live as well!
day 2 started with portugal.the man, I can't help, I love their music when it's played live even a 100 times more than on the record, very interesting musicians. One of the best acts was Delphic, they played the right music at the right time, late-afternoon-sky, flying - not dancing - flying!
We are Scientists where probably the most talkative act I've seen on the festival, at least the most talkative english-speaking band. Very energetic set! But the nuts in the chocolate-cake, the extra-bit of taste, the missing ingredient that completes the masterpiece where Tocotronic on this day. The charmingly nice announcements of dirk during the songs, the mix between new and old material, the atmosphere, the crowd that was totally with the band, everything put together made it a perfect concert! Walking home to the tent with a constant smile on my face. the only thing that could have been improved was the sound, too quiet!
day 3 started with Bilderbuch on race stage. wow, the huge stage somehow suits them quite well! the last day seemed actually rather unexciting but turned out to hold it's surprises for me! Element of Crime was one of the most beautiful concerts in these 3 days. The way sven regener writes and sings about love is untouchably wonderful. But it kinda depresses me. FM Belfast though managed to save the night and cheered me up! Constant dancing and smiling during their performance, wonderful band. They new how to make you dance to your limits! So grace to FM Belfast that I didn't miss Deadmau5 at the nightpark! Absolutely amazing dj set! I'm running out of words to express my feelings so I better quit now. Too much musical impressions, it'll take me ages to get over this high dose of great music, injected right into my heart haha.
Wonderful, intense festival!
no pictures of the festival because I shot with an old Nikon F-501 - excited how the pictures turn out to look like :)
I like attics. full of stuff which is ready to be thrown away but somehow will never be thrown away. the owner keeps it in the hope of finding it useful one day in future. dusty. dust all over everything. spidernets. and this mysterious atmosphere that makes you feel like entering a world beyond the present. a world where time has no value.
